US Blockade Keeps 50 Iranian Oil Tankers Bottled Up
The US blockade of Iran continues to impact the country’s oil exports, with dozens of tankers stranded near its coast, according to United Against Nuclear Iran. At least 50 tankers loaded with Iranian oil are currently bottled up, a figure that has remained unchanged over the past two months. These vessels primarily carry crude oil, along with petroleum products and liquefied petroleum gas.
The nonprofit group highlighted in its latest shipping update on October 5 that the situation remains tense. While most tankers are stuck near Iran, others outside the Persian Gulf are holding off near Sri Lanka. The blockade has effectively disrupted Iran’s ability to export its oil freely.
