US Blockade on Iran's Oil Exports Makes Iranian Crude Irrelevant to Global Market

The US has reimposed its blockade on Iranian oil exports in the Gulf of Oman, effectively preventing Tehran from shipping crude. This development is making Iran's oil volumes irrelevant for global oil market balances, according to Bob McNally, president of Rapidan Energy Group.

The blockade was temporarily lifted in June and early July while negotiations were being held between the US and Iran, but it has now been reinstated. As a result, Iran's key oil export terminal, Kharg Island, which handles over 90% of all shipments, is no longer exporting oil.

McNally told CNBC that Iran has stopped being a factor in global oil market exports due to the blockade, and its crude exports are now effectively zero. He noted that refined product markets are already flashing severe tightness, with the diesel crack spread hitting record highs in both the US and Europe this week.
