US Bolsters Defences Around Gulf Energy Infrastructure Amid Tensions with Iran
The United States military has deployed two additional Patriot missile batteries to Saudi Arabia and Qatar in response to heightened tensions with Iran.
According to Axios, the deployments were made at the request of Saudi and Qatari leaders who fear that Tehran could target their energy assets if Washington resumes major offensive operations against Iran.
The first Patriot unit was positioned in Saudi Arabia to protect a major petroleum installation, while the second was sent to Qatar to safeguard a primary natural gas facility.
The move highlights the vulnerabilities facing Gulf energy networks should the US-Iran conflict escalate further. Any substantial strike against petroleum or gas infrastructure across the region risks destabilising global energy supplies and tightening international markets.
