US Boosts Energy Security with Additional Patriot Deployments in Middle East
The US has deployed additional Patriot air defense systems to Saudi Arabia and Qatar to protect key oil and gas infrastructure. Two systems were sent, one to defend a key oil facility in Saudi Arabia and another to protect a natural gas installation in Qatar.
The deployments, which took place in September, are intended to reassure Washington's Gulf allies that their critical energy infrastructure would be protected if US attacks on Iran were to resume.
This move comes amid growing concerns over a possible resumption of major military operations against Iran. The US has been increasing its military presence in the Middle East with additional warships, aircraft, and personnel.
The threat to Saudi energy infrastructure is particularly significant, as Yemen's Ansurullah Coalition forces have intensified attacks on oil facilities. In October, they claimed to have targeted an Aramco facility in Riyadh with ballistic missiles and drones.
