US Corn Returns to Bangladesh Market After Eight-Year Absence

The US has re-entered Bangladesh's corn market after an eight-year absence, securing around a 6% share of imports in the 2025/26 crop year. According to the USDA, Bangladesh imported over 1.74 million tons of corn, with around 111,000 tons coming from the US.

Brazil remained the largest supplier, accounting for 68% of imports, while India supplied 24%. However, Brazil's share declined sharply from approximately 93% in the previous crop year.

The return of US corn was led by an initial purchase of around 60,000 tons by three Bangladeshi feed companies. This development follows a decline in India's exportable corn surplus due to increased diversion towards biofuel production, creating opportunities for alternative suppliers like the US.
