US Deploys Additional Patriot Missile Batteries to Middle East Amid Iran Tensions
The US military has deployed additional Patriot missile batteries to Saudi Arabia and Qatar in recent weeks to protect key oil and natural gas facilities from potential Iranian attacks.
The deployments are part of a larger effort by Washington to reassure its allies that their critical energy infrastructure would be defended if President Donald Trump decides to resume major military operations against Iran.
Last month, one Patriot battery was sent to Saudi Arabia to protect an oil facility, while another was deployed to Qatar to defend a natural gas facility. The moves follow concerns raised in early August when Trump was considering a major attack on Iran that could have included strikes on its energy infrastructure.
Patriot missile batteries are designed to intercept and destroy incoming missiles, making them an essential component of the US military's defense strategy in the region. The deployments come as Washington is reinforcing its military presence in the Middle East with additional warships, fighter aircraft, and troops amid the possibility of renewed fighting.
