US Deploys Additional Patriot Missiles to Saudi Arabia and Qatar Amid Iran Tensions
The US military is deploying additional Patriot missile batteries to Saudi Arabia and Qatar as part of its efforts to reinforce defenses around energy facilities in the region.
The move comes amid heightened tensions with Iran, which has been accused of targeting oil and gas installations in the area. President Donald Trump has warned that if Iran refuses to sign a deal, it will face consequences, stating 'Now, I have to make a decision: Either Iran signs the deal, or it won't exist any longer.'
The deployments are intended to reassure US allies that Washington will help protect their energy infrastructure in case of an escalation. One battery was sent to Saudi Arabia last month to defend a key oil facility, while another is being deployed to Qatar to defend a natural gas facility.
Patriot systems are capable of defending against aircraft, drones, cruise missiles, and short-range ballistic missiles. The US and Israel launched their military campaign against Iran in February, with the aim of weakening its missile capabilities and preventing it from developing nuclear weapons.
