US Deploys Third Carrier Strike Group to Middle East Amid Iran Pressure
The US is escalating its military presence in the Middle East as the USS Theodore Roosevelt group and the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group depart for the region. They will join the USS George Washington and the USS George H.W. Bush, already stationed there.
President Donald Trump had previously hinted that strikes against Iran could resume after the midterm elections in November. The US Navy's blockade of Iranian ports has helped to return oil exports from the Persian Gulf to near pre-war levels.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is implementing actions under Operation Economic Outcast, which aims to isolate Iran financially and cut off funding for its nuclear program and terrorist activities. In September, Iran loaded zero crude oil onto tankers, a significant drop from previous months.
