US Diesel Prices Soar to 2022 High Amid Ongoing US-Iran Tensions
Oil prices have surged to $97 per barrel, while diesel fuel has reached its highest level since 2022 in the United States. On September 3, the national average for diesel hit $5.78 per gallon, marking a jump of more than 53% from February's average price of $3.76 per gallon nationwide.
The rapid increase is linked to ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, which have disrupted oil supplies and triggered fears of further disruptions along key routes like the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the American Automobile Association, gasoline prices have also risen sharply, with an average price exceeding $4.11 per gallon, a 38% jump since the start of the conflict. Diesel prices have climbed even faster, reflecting their importance to sectors such as shipping, farming, and construction.
