US Drilling Rig Count Hits New High Amid Rising Oil Prices
The number of active drilling rigs in the US has increased to 595, up 53 from this time last year, according to Baker Hughes data. This week's total rig count is a notable rise from the same period in 2026.
The number of active oil rigs rose by 2 to 452 during the latest reporting period, which is 34 above this same time last year. The number of gas rigs also rose by 2 to 134, up 16 from this time last year. Miscellaneous rigs stayed the same at 9.
The latest EIA data showed that weekly US crude oil production fell during the week ending September 11, averaging 13.944 million bpd. However, this is still a significant increase from a year ago, up 462,000 bpd.
