US Enters Winter with Record Gas Production and Strong Storage Levels
As winter approaches, the US is heading into the season from a strong supply position thanks to record-setting natural gas production and healthy storage levels. According to the Natural Gas Supply Association's (NGSA) 2026-27 winter outlook, dry gas production in the US is projected to hit a record 112.5 billion cubic feet per day. At the same time, high storage levels stand at 3.88 trillion cubic feet.
Dena Wiggins, president and CEO of the NGSA, said that 'the U.S. is heading into winter from a very strong supply position' based on these production and storage levels. She noted that this combination gives the market a strong cushion heading into colder months, with robust production expected even as demand grows.
Increases in projected demand are largely driven by rising liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, which are set to rise 2.3 Bcf per day year over year. Residential, commercial, and industrial usage is expected to remain steady under normal weather assumptions.
