US Farmers Feel the Pinch as Diesel Prices Soar 73% Amid Trump's Iran War
As the national average cost of diesel reached an all-time high on September 5, local TV news stations across the country have been shedding light on the struggles faced by farmers due to high diesel prices. With peak harvest season approaching, these farmers are finding it increasingly difficult to adapt to the rising costs.
The damage to refineries and other infrastructure caused by President Donald Trump's war with Iran has led to a spike in crude oil prices, further exacerbating an already tight global diesel market. According to AAA, the national average price of diesel was $6.53 per gallon as of September 22, up about 73% since the start of the war.
Farmers are not only affected by the high cost of diesel, which powers nearly all farm equipment, but also by rising costs of production and fertilizer. Trump has stated that he does not expect diesel prices to come down anytime soon.
