US Fertilizer Prices Ease But Remain Higher Than Last Year
The fertilizer prices for US farmers have eased slightly in September 2026, but remain higher than last year's prices for most nutrients. According to data from AgroLatam, urea is currently priced at $658 per ton, potash at $494, and anhydrous ammonia at $938. These prices are still 4% to 22% higher than their year-ago levels. The only exception is UAN32, which is trading about 5% below its year-earlier price.
The decline in nitrogen prices from their spring highs provides some relief for farmers, particularly those growing corn. However, the current prices remain a significant concern for farm margins. Anhydrous ammonia is still 22% more expensive than last year, and most fertilizers cost more than they did a year ago.
The Federal Trade Commission has announced an industry-wide investigation into the rise in US fertilizer prices. The agency will examine whether anticompetitive conduct played a role in sustained price increases in a concentrated industry.
