US Fertilizer Prices Soar Amidst Global Supply Chain Pressures
Fertilizer prices in the US have surged again, with anhydrous ammonia leading the charge. As of September 2026, the average price is $977 per ton, a 25% increase from last year and a 6% jump from the previous month.
All eight major fertilizers monitored in the US retail market are now more expensive than they were a year ago, with potash averaging $498 per ton, 2% above its price last year. The pressure extends beyond anhydrous, with DAP at $926 per ton and MAP at $970.
The increase matters because fertilizer is becoming one of the fastest-growing production expenses in US agriculture, tightening crop margins and forcing corn and other row-crop producers to reassess nutrient purchases, application strategies, and 2027 production budgets.
