US Forces Sink Iranian Oil Tanker in Gulf of Oman Escalation
US forces sank an Iranian oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman on Sunday, marking a significant escalation in military tensions between the two countries. The tanker, MT Kilo, was targeted as part of a US operation aimed at disrupting Iran's financing network and military deterrence.
The sinking of the tanker comes after a month of relative calm in the region, but Washington has intensified economic pressure on Tehran and stalled diplomatic efforts. In response to the attacks, US forces permanently disabled two other oil tankers, Dawnee and Stark 1, in addition to destroying the MT Kilo.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) described the tanker as part of a 'billion-dollar shadow network funding the Revolutionary Guard.'
CENTCOM chief Admiral Brad Cooper vowed to continue responding decisively, affirming that Washington would not hesitate to destroy the Iranian oil fleet if necessary.
