US Forces Sink One of Three Targeted Iranian Oil Tankers
US forces have targeted and sunk one of three Iranian oil tankers in a military operation on September 5, 2026. The M/T Kylo was heavily damaged and partially submerged before it sank, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).
The tanker was struck after its crew was directed to abandon ship, CENTCOM said. Two other vessels, the M/T Downy and M/T Stark 1, were 'permanently disabled' in the same operation.
No American personnel were harmed during the attacks, which followed Iranian ballistic missile launches toward a US aircraft carrier and guided-missle destroyer. Both warships successfully evaded the missiles.
The incident marks a significant escalation of tensions between the US and Iran, with both sides accusing each other of aggression in recent weeks.
