US Futures Edge Higher Amid Ongoing Oil Price Volatility
US stock futures ticked higher on Tuesday as oil prices retreated modestly and US Treasury yields paused their run-up after reaching nearly two-decade highs.
Futures for the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average each rose by 0.2% before the bell, while Nasdaq futures gained 0.4%. The price of a barrel of US crude fell $1.43 to $91.17, down more than 12% from just two weeks ago but still significantly higher than its pre-war level.
The Conference Board is set to release its consumer confidence survey for September on Tuesday, which could provide insight into American consumers' views on the state of the economy. Consumers have broadly soured on the US economy this year due in part to rising gas and energy bills.
