US Grain and Oilseed Markets Mixed Amid Crude Oil Influence
The US grain and oilseed markets experienced mixed results on Thursday, influenced by various factors. Soybean futures at the Chicago Board of Trade were narrowly mixed, with slight losses in the front months.
The Pro Farmer Crop Tour reported soybean pod counts in Illinois at 1,430.37, down 3.3% from last year. The tour's results for Iowa and Minnesota will be released later that evening.
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced soybean export sales for the week ended August 13, which included 85,000 tonnes of old crop and 1.72 million tonnes for 2026-27, with China accounting for almost two-thirds of the latter. The sales were within trade expectations.
Corn futures were higher on Thursday due to spillover from crude oil prices. The Pro Farmer Crop Tour estimated Illinois corn yields to be down 7.7% based on a yield estimate of 184.19 bushels per acre. The weather forecast for the US Corn Belt is for a slight drop in high temperatures, with rain more likely for its eastern half.
