US Held Hostage by Middle East Oil: Can Trump's Plan Break the Stranglehold?

The United States' dependence on Middle East oil is a long-standing issue that has been perpetuated by various factors. According to President Trump, the UK's new prime minister, Andy Burnham, has agreed to tap more light, sweet crude from the North Sea, which would massively boost the UK economy.

However, improved technology has reduced the likelihood of oil spills and damage to wildlife and beaches, making offshore oil drilling a viable option. Critics often raise concerns about the environmental impact, but this is not an insurmountable challenge.

Iran's hold on the U.S. economy is also a significant concern, with gas prices and inflation higher during the Biden administration than under previous presidents. If Democrats regain control of Congress in the fall election and deny President Trump funds to continue targeting Iran, the ayatollahs may resume their efforts to create a nuclear weapon.

President John F. Kennedy's words of encouragement still resonate today: 'We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things... because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept.' It's time for the U.S. to take on the hard task of reducing its dependence on Middle East oil.
