US Hits Iranian Tanker Near Strategic Oil Export Hub
An Iranian tanker was reportedly hit by US forces on Saturday near Kharg Island in the Gulf. According to Tasnim, the semi-official Iranian news agency, the tanker was struck by four US missiles in the area of Kharg Island's anchorage.
There were no casualties and the crew is being evacuated, local sources told Tasnim. The incident comes as tensions between Iran and the US remain high, with US President Donald Trump having previously threatened to take over Kharg Island and disrupt Iran's oil exports.
Kharg Island is a key oil export hub for Iran, which is the third-largest producer in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. The US has imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports since April, severely impacting Iran's economy and oil industry.
