US-Iran Ceasefire Agreement Sparks Oil Price Drop

A major breakthrough in US-Iran ceasefire talks has led to a sharp drop in international oil prices. Iran proposed a 'temporary navigation corridor' in the Strait of Hormuz, which was accepted by Oman and is expected to be finalized with further negotiations. The agreement includes the establishment of a joint temporary shipping corridor, as well as joint projects to clear mines from the strait's waters.

The US has also reached an agreement with Iran on the terms of a ceasefire, including free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump announced that every inch of water in the Strait of Hormuz had been thoroughly swept for mines and that the US Space Force was monitoring the waterway to prevent new explosives from being laid.

Following market expectations that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen, international crude oil prices fell sharply on Tuesday: Brent crude for October delivery dropped 3.9%, settling at $88.58 per barrel; WTI crude for October delivery fell 3.1%, settling at $82.36 per barrel.

The agreement is seen as a significant step towards ending the nearly seven-month-long conflict in Iran, and Pakistani officials have expressed optimism that the talks will lead to lasting peace in the region. However, Iran has warned that its conditions for accepting the ceasefire agreement still need to be met, including the lifting of the naval blockade on Iranian ports and the removal of sanctions restricting Iran's ability to sell oil at market prices.
