US-Iran Conflict Drives Oil Prices Higher Amid Global Protests
Global protests have erupted in several countries as oil prices surge due to the ongoing US-Iran conflict. The war has driven up energy costs worldwide, affecting both wealthy and less affluent nations.
Oil prices rose above $100 per barrel last week following further US strikes on Iranian oil tankers in the Gulf and renewed fighting in Yemen. This led to elevated gas prices in the United States, with analysts forecasting a 30% price jump amid the Iran war.
In Syria, protests broke out over the weekend after the government raised diesel prices by 40% and gas prices by more than 25%. Demonstrators blocked highways and burned tires, while others marched peacefully through cities to demand immediate government action.
Other countries affected by the price hikes include Guatemala, where truckers and protesters blocked highways; Portugal, where a coastal city saw protests against rising fuel costs; France, where fishermen blockaded a major fuel depot; and the Philippines, where workers went on strike to protest fuel price increases.
