US Iran Tensions Ease, Stocks React with Mixed Results
Stocks on Wall Street saw mixed trading Monday as oil prices plummeted after the US and Iran paused their attacks. The war between the two nations had caused significant disruptions to global trade, including a halt in traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. This led to surging gasoline costs and higher shipping expenses for businesses.
The S&P 500 rose less than 0.1%, following two consecutive weekly losses. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 0.5% while the Nasdaq composite fell 0.2%, its fourth straight loss. The three major indexes are on track to close out this month in the red.
Bond yields declined as investors reacted to the easing of tensions between the US and Iran. The yield on the 10-year Treasury dropped to 4.65% from 4.69% late Friday.
