US-Iran Tensions Send Brent Crude Oil Prices Soaring
Brent crude oil prices have risen above $102 per barrel due to heightened tensions between the US and Iran, threatening energy supplies from the Middle East. The price hike follows reports that the US plans to send a third aircraft carrier strike group to the region, along with Marine Corps ships and up to 10,000 additional troops.
The additional military deployment has raised concerns about intensified conflict with Iran, which could disrupt crude and refined fuel supplies. At least three tankers were reportedly attacked this week while attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping lane for Middle East oil exports.
Energy markets are also facing pressure from other regions, including Ukraine's attacks on Russian refineries, which have led Moscow to restrict diesel exports. Chinese refiners have cancelled several gasoline and jet fuel export shipments scheduled for October, likely in an effort to preserve domestic supplies.
