US-Iran Tensions Send Gold and Silver Prices Plummeting

The global market for gold and silver has been impacted by rising tensions between the US and Iran. As a result, prices have dropped significantly. Gold futures expiring on August 05, 2026, fell half a percent to Rs 141907 per 10 grams, while silver futures expiring on September 04, 2026, declined 0.65% to Rs 217941 per kg.

The intensification of war between Tehran and Washington has raised concerns about global energy security, pushing oil prices above $100 per barrel for the first time since May. US President Donald Trump warned of expanded military action against Iran, vowing to hold Tehran accountable for any future Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea.

The increased oil price has ironically had a negative impact on gold and silver, which are often sought as a hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty. Spot gold has dropped nearly 2% to around $4,047.80 an ounce, while spot silver has fallen more sharply, down about 3.46% to near $57.64.
