US, Iran to Hold Separate Talks with Qatari Mediators in New York

US and Iranian officials are set to hold separate talks with Qatari mediators in New York this week, focused on an amended version of Iran's seven-day proposal.

The proposal, presented by Iran last week at the UN General Assembly, includes measures such as an end to all hostilities in Iran and Lebanon, unfreezing billions of dollars worth of Iranian assets, lifting sanctions on Iranian oil, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

However, US President Donald Trump rejected the proposal on Saturday, stating that Iran wanted a swift agreement due to economic pressure. But he also hinted at further talks this week, saying US negotiators would engage in discussions.

Araqchi, Iran's Foreign Minister, remains in New York and stated that only a negotiated solution could resolve the impasse, adding that any move towards reopening the Strait of Hormuz is contingent on certain conditions being met.
