US LNG Boom Sparks Capacity Concerns Amid Rush to Build
The US liquefied natural gas (LNG) market is set to boom as global demand rises and energy security concerns drive investment priorities. With $416.6 billion of capital expenditure planned through to the early 2030s, a wave of projects is accelerating in the US.
Amanda Duhon, VP and regional director for North & Central America at the Energy Industries Council (EIC), noted that just 10 developers account for 29 of the 54 export projects identified by the EIC's global capex tracking database. These large players include Venture Global, Sempra, NextDecade, Woodside, and Cheniere.
Duhon emphasized that execution capacity is becoming a strategic advantage in this market. 'A relatively small group of developers and contractors will determine how much of this LNG pipeline ultimately moves forward,' she said.
