US LNG Shipment to China Re-Exported for Higher Profits

The first US liquefied natural gas shipment to China in over a year will not be consumed locally. Instead, it will be re-exported due to higher profits available overseas and an attempt to avoid paying tariffs.

According to ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg, the cargo from Venture Global's Plaquemines facility in Louisiana was offloaded at the Yangpu port in southern China on July 27, 2026. The gas was then loaded into bonded storage where it is being prepared for re-export.

The people involved had intended to deliver the LNG with the intention of resale overseas, where prices are more attractive. This move by US companies looks to tap into higher profits and avoid paying tariffs on Chinese imports.
