Two tankers carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the US have altered their courses to head toward Europe in recent days. This shift comes as demand in Asia has weakened, offering temporary respite to the strained global LNG market ahead of the winter season.
The reduced appetite for LNG in Asia this month may allow more cargoes to be redirected to Europe. The continent is racing to replenish its unusually low gas inventories before the heating season begins. This marks a significant change from earlier this year when Asian importers were aggressively purchasing LNG cargoes to compensate for lost supplies from the Middle East due to the Iran war.
