US Loans Argentina $6 Billion for First LNG Export Project
The US government is set to support Argentina's first LNG export project by lending up to $6 billion, as part of a joint initiative to strengthen and modernize infrastructure in the region.
The financing will be provided by the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) and is intended to support the procurement of US goods and services required for infrastructure development and production activities. This includes contracts worth over $1 billion awarded to US firms Pumpco and McDermott for engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
The project aims to develop an integrated LNG value chain from upstream gas production to export infrastructure, including two Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) units with a combined liquefaction capacity of 12 million tonnes per year. The partners in the project have applied to join Argentina's Large Investment Incentive Regime and target a final investment decision by the end of 2026.
