The U.S. military has launched an attack on three Iranian oil tankers in response to what it claims were ballistic missile attacks on American warships in the region.

The strikes, which occurred on Saturday, targeted two loaded and one unladen tanker, with the U.S. stating that no personnel were hurt but both vessels were 'permanently disabled.'

The U.S. military accused Iran of using its oil tankers as a shadow network to fund its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and armed proxies in the region.

Iranian state media reported that it had targeted three American vessels, including an aircraft carrier, in response to the U.S. strikes.
