US Monetary Policy Outlook Weighs on Gold Prices
Gold prices remained steady in Tuesday's trading as markets assessed the outlook for US monetary policy.
The precious metal was little changed, weighed down by expectations that interest rates will remain elevated for longer due to uncertainty surrounding geopolitical developments in the Middle East.
The US dollar index, which measures the performance of the greenback against a basket of six major currencies, edged down 0.1% to 100.33.
According to Chris Weston, head of research at Pepperstone, markets are focused this week on comments from Federal Reserve officials to gauge the outlook for monetary policy and whether the central bank is leaning toward another rate hike in October.
