US Natural Gas Output Hits Record High in July 2026
US natural gas production hit a new milestone in July 2026, reaching its highest level ever recorded. The surge was primarily fueled by increased output from the Permian Basin, where new pipeline infrastructure projects helped alleviate transportation constraints. According to the US Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) Natural Gas Monthly report, total gross production at the wellhead climbed to a record 137 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d).
The record-breaking performance was driven by the activation of new wells in Texas and New Mexico. Combined production in these states rose by 1.7 bcf/d, marking a 3.2% increase compared to the previous month. This follows a series of five record highs set in the prior year, underscoring the steady growth in US natural gas output.
Analysts attribute the surge to strategic investments in infrastructure, which have expanded the capacity for natural gas transportation and distribution. The Permian Basin, in particular, has emerged as a key driver of this growth, benefiting from both technological advancements and favorable regulatory conditions.
