US Navy May Escort Ships Through Strait of Hormuz When Militarily Possible
The US Navy may escort vessels through the Strait of Hormuz when militarily possible, according to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
Bessent told Sky News that as soon as the US has 'complete control of the skies' and Iran's missile rebuilding capabilities are degraded, the Navy will escort ships with an international coalition.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical shipping route for Middle East oil and gas flows, which have been disrupted by regional tensions following US and Israeli strikes on Iran.
Bessent noted that some tankers, including Iranian and Chinese-flagged vessels, are still passing through the strait without incident.
