US Navy Takes Control of Strait of Hormuz as Oil Flows Reach 15 Million BPD
The US Navy has gained control over the critical Strait of Hormuz waterway as oil flows have reached 15 million barrels per day, supported by US naval patrols and upgraded infrastructure.
This represents a significant increase from previous averages, with analysts noting that Iran's influence over the region is waning. More than 80% of liquid transits have taken the Omani route, which is opposed by Iran.
Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE are using Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) to move oil through the Strait before transferring it to customer tankers outside the danger zone. Some tankers have switched off transponders for weeks to avoid Iranian attacks, creating 'dark traffic' that can evade traditional tracking systems.
