US Oil and Gas Industry Faces Bleak Outlook Amid Rising EV Adoption
The outlook for the US oil and gas industry is bleak, according to recent projections from various energy agencies. Despite President Trump's efforts to boost the industry, the future seems stagnant at best, with a good chance of decline. The Economic Information Administration (EIA) projects that U.S. oil production will remain flat in the coming years, with some decline expected by the 2030s.
The EIA also forecasts that U.S. refinery throughput will be flat, with a declining amount used domestically for transportation but somewhat more for industry. This is largely due to the increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), which are expected to displace 5.4 million barrels per day of global oil demand for transportation fuel.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) suggests that we are approaching peak global demand for oil, with demand entering a period of decline as EVs become more prevalent. Natural gas production, however, is seen as a bright spot, driven by increasing energy demand and possible growth in U.S. exports.
