US Oil Producers Sign Up for Venezuela Deals
US oil producers are set to sign production agreements with Venezuela's state-owned oil company, Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), in a ceremony scheduled for Tuesday evening in Houston. The signing follows a trip by senior Trump administration officials to Caracas in late April to lay the groundwork for formal production agreements.
According to industry representatives, several independent US oil producers will sign the agreements, which come after Venezuela's interim president Delcy Rodríguez unveiled new regulations offering more favourable fiscal terms for international oil companies last month. The regulations aim to attract investment from foreign firms and revive Venezuela's struggling oil sector.
The move is part of efforts by the Trump administration to encourage new oil development in Venezuela, which holds some of the world's largest oil reserves. However, it remains to be seen whether this will lead to a significant increase in production, with estimates suggesting that investment by independent producers could add only around 300,000 barrels per day.
