US Pressures Countries to Break Ties with Iran Amid Economic Isolation

The United States is pressuring countries to break ties with Iran as part of its strategy to isolate Tehran. The Trump administration's latest attempt began when the UAE suspended trade relations with Iran last week.

Iran's economy, already strained by high inflation and Western sanctions, is poised for further instability due to the loss of a key trade partner in the UAE.

The UAE was Iran's biggest source of imported items and a gateway to financial channels that helped Iranian businesses make international payments. While Iran may be able to replace the UAE as a conduit for foreign goods, it will not happen overnight, according to Alex Vatanka, a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute.

The success of the US strategy hinges on China, which is both Iran's main buyer of oil and its top trading partner. Russia, another target of sanctions, has its own economic crisis and may not be able to offer significant financial support to Iran.
