US Rejection of Iran's Seven-Day Proposal Leaves Strait of Hormuz Tensions High
The US-Iran conflict has escalated as Iran proposed a seven-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restore normal maritime traffic. The proposal includes a ceasefire, an end to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, the release of $12 billion in frozen assets, and the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran would not accept coercion or threats. However, The Wall Street Journal reported that US President Donald Trump has rejected the proposal, citing US officials familiar with the matter.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical energy shipping route, and any prolonged disruption could impact oil prices, shipping costs, insurance, trade, and imported goods in the UAE.
