US Sanctions Strand 20 Iranian Oil Tankers Off Sri Lanka
Approximately 20 Iranian and Iran-linked oil tankers are stranded off Sri Lanka's southwestern coast, reportedly due to US sanctions pressure.
The vessels were involved in transporting sanctioned Iranian crude to China, but have been unable or unwilling to return to Iranian ports after unloading.
Sri Lankan authorities have been monitoring the situation, noting that the vessels' presence outside territorial waters limits their jurisdiction over them.
Shipping agents have sought food and fuel from local companies, but some suppliers are reluctant due to potential US sanctions risks.
