US-Saudi Airstrikes Kill Six Iranian Advisers in Eastern Iraq
The US and Saudi Arabia jointly carried out airstrikes on Iran-backed militias in eastern Iraq, killing six Iranian advisers. The strikes targeted multiple terrorist logistics and weapons sites in response to over 30 drone attacks directed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against US forces and Saudi energy infrastructure.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the IRGC-directed drone attacks were unsuccessful, but the coalition of primarily Shiite militias has suffered significant losses. At least 20 fighters from the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) were killed, and another 32 were wounded in the strikes.
The Saudi Defense Ministry spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki, confirmed that Saudi forces participated in the coordinated operation with the United States against pro-Iranian militia targets in Iraq. He stated that the strikes were a response to recent drone launches and attempted attacks on Saudi oil facilities.
