US Secures Venezuela Oil Deal Amid Iran War Tensions

The US has secured access to part of Venezuela's vast Oil reserves, which could reshape America's inflation fight. The agreement covers 17 fields containing around 65 billion barrels of proven reserves, more than one-fifth of Venezuela's roughly 300 billion barrels.

Under the deal, the US government will take a 35% stake in the parent company of North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP) and has the right to purchase 20% of production at cost to replenish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), as well as a right of first refusal on the remaining 80%.

The agreement is significant given the war with Iran, which has disrupted Middle Eastern supplies and kept energy prices elevated. The US government hopes that Venezuela's Oil can provide a hedge against future shocks in the region.

However, there are concerns about the feasibility of increasing production from Venezuela's fields, which require significant investment to restore capacity.
