US Seeks to Boost ASEAN Cooperation on AI, LNG, and Nuclear Energy

The United States has outlined plans to expand cooperation with Southeast Asia in advanced technologies and energy security. Speaking after the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, US Ambassador to ASEAN Kevin Kim announced initiatives aimed at promoting the use of AI in public sector applications and providing access to the American LNG market.

The US-ASEAN AI SPARK initiative will support American AI exports in the region by offering financial and technical assistance to Southeast Asian governments interested in deploying US AI stacks. Meanwhile, Washington is investing $1.5 billion in an investment platform to facilitate energy security infrastructure development across the Indo-Pacific.

Kim highlighted the importance of small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) as a strategic priority for both the US and ASEAN countries. He noted that SMRs will play a critical role in supplying energy globally, especially with growing demands from emerging technologies like AI and data centers.
