US Seizes Iranian Oil Tankers En Route to America
The United States has seized three Iran-linked oil tankers carrying nearly six million barrels of Iranian crude oil, worth approximately $600 million. According to tracking data from TankerTrackers, the vessels are currently in the Atlantic Ocean, en route to the US.
The tanker Majestic X briefly listed the US as its destination between July 31 and August 2 as it began heading toward the Atlantic from waters off Malaysia. The two tankers, Majestic X and Tifani, are now off Brazil's northern coast, according to Kpler data.
The vessels were seized by the US in April after loading oil in Iran under programs aimed at limiting Iran's oil exports. The seizures are part of an effort to 'disrupt illicit networks and interdict sanctioned vessels providing material support to Iran,' as described by the US Department of War.
