US Stocks Hold Near Record High Amid Economic Headwinds
The US stock market held steady near its record high on Tuesday after oil prices eased. The S&P 500 fell by just 0.06 points, or less than 0.1%, to 7,764.64, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 185.14 points, or 0.4%, to 51,863.69. In contrast, the Nasdaq composite rose 122.18 points, or 0.5%, to 27,244.28.
AutoZone's stock climbed 3.3% after the retailer reported a profit that exceeded analyst expectations for the latest quarter, despite its revenue falling short. CEO Phil Daniele stated that AutoZone faced a 'difficult selling environment' in the first two months of the quarter but improved afterward and feels well-positioned for sales growth in the upcoming fiscal year.
Rival Thor Industries, which sells recreational vehicles, saw its stock rise 5.5% despite CEO Bob Martin's warning that expensive fuel, high interest rates, and still-high inflation are stretching customers' budgets. The company reported a stronger profit than analysts had anticipated for the latest quarter.
