US Stocks Rebound on Diplomatic Hopes, Treasury Yields Reach New Heights
US stocks are experiencing a rebound on Friday after a tumultuous week that saw Treasury yields surge to multi-decade highs. The Dow is poised to close its fourth consecutive losing week, but the S&P 500 and Nasdaq are on track for gains.
The recovery in US equities comes as oil prices decline due to hopes of diplomatic progress between the US and Iran. This development has eased concerns about inflation following a volatile week in the bond market.
U.S. 10-year Treasury yields climbed to 5.225%, a fresh 19-year high, while the 30-year yield reached 5.502%, last seen in 2004. The surge was fueled by hawkish comments from Fed officials and persistently high energy prices due to the Iran war.
Market expectations are now pricing in a 70% probability of a rate hike in October.
