US Stocks Rise as Oil Prices Fall and Bond Market Pressure Eases
US stocks rose on Thursday after oil prices fell and pressure from the bond market eased. The S&P 500 climbed 1.1%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 358 points, or 0.7%, as of 2:08 p.m. Eastern time. The Nasdaq composite was 1.6% higher.
The price for a barrel of Brent crude oil slid 1% to $104.79, down sharply from nearly $110 earlier in the week on worries about the war with Iran.
The yield on the 10-year Treasury fell to 4.95% from 5.01% late Wednesday, making borrowing more expensive for everyone, including individuals looking to buy houses and businesses wanting to build data centers.
