US Strikes Iran Tankers Amid Escalating Gulf Tensions

The US military launched strikes against three Iranian crude oil tankers in response to an attack by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on two US Navy warships. The strikes targeted the very large crude carrier Downy, the Suezmax-sized Stark I, and another tanker, which has been identified as the Suezmax-sized Kylo.

The Kylo sank in the Gulf of Oman after being struck by a US missile, according to the US Central Command's post on X. The Stark I was disabled, but it is not clear if it will be repaired or scrapped. Downy suffered significant damage and its status is also uncertain.

The strikes were carried out as part of a retaliation for the IRGC's attack on the two US Navy warships with ballistic missiles. This incident has raised tensions between the two nations, with the US military stating that it will take all necessary measures to protect its assets.
