The US military launched retaliatory strikes on Iranian targets in response to Tehran's attack on American forces in Jordan. The strikes came after the US partnered with Saudi Arabia to strike Iran-backed militias in neighboring Iraq, killing at least 20 fighters and six Iranian advisers.

Iranian state media reported that two people were injured in attacks on the island of Qeshm in the Strait of Hormuz, and explosions were also reported in Khuzestan province to the northwest.

The renewed hostilities sent oil prices spiking, with Brent crude jumping 7.3% to $88.093 a barrel.

Iraq's government decried the US-Saudi attacks, though a Fox News reporter said that Trump told him they were done in coordination with the Iraqi government.
