The US Central Command said it struck three Iranian oil tankers in waters around Iran on Saturday, including one off the coast of Kharg Island, near Iran's oil export hub.

Adm. Brad Cooper, head of U.S. Central Command, stated that this action was taken after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched ballistic missiles at two US Navy ships.

The IRGC responded by threatening intensified strikes against US military vessels in the region and later said it targeted three tankers as well as three US-linked vessels in other areas.

No American personnel were harmed, according to Central Command.
